Jeff La Roux

Jeff La Roux is the Director of Meadow Montessori High School.  He has a master’s degree in administration from Northern Michigan University, and an undergraduate degree in English, history, and music from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.  He is trained in and knowledgeable about middle level practices.  He has applied his knowledge about effective middle level practices to our high school program.  He is the former president of the Michigan Association of Middle School Educators and is president-elect of the Association of Middle Level Educators, a national professional organization for teachers, administrators, and parents interested in the education of children aged 10-15.

During the 2011-2012 school year, Jeff is teaching high school classes in social studies and AP music theory.  He also teaches high school and middle school band/winds.  He is the former conductor of the Iron County Band in Iron River and co-founder of the Jordan Valley Community Band in East Jordan.

He has a long history of public school involvement.  He taught at Selfridge Public Schools on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota, and at Nipher Middle School in suburban St. Louis, Missouri.  He has been a middle school principal for twenty years, including fifteen years at Cantrick Middle School in Monroe.

The entire La Roux family drives to Meadow every day.  Jeff and his wife, Emilie, live in Monroe and both work at Meadow Montessori.  Their daughter, Lydia, is a student at Meadow Montessori High School.
