Darcy Piedmonte

This year marks Darcy Piedmonte’s 17th year as Directress of Intermediate West. Darcy began working at the school as an assistant in 1990, so she celebrates her 20th year with the school as Meadow Montessori celebrates its 25th anniversary. It is a good time to give some reflection to the difference the school has made in the lives of so many children, including those who have now become adults.

Darcy traveled to Bergamo, Italy in 1992 to receive AMI Montessori training. It is here that she realized academic curriculum can be integrated from the very youngest age. Darcy had the good fortune to receive a great education herself and has always known that a teacher and rich subject matter can change one’s life. She hopes to be able to impart some of her love of learning and the thrill of understanding the connectedness between disciplines to the students of MMS. 

This past year, 2008 – 2009, Darcy completed an M.A. degree in Montessori education through St. Catherine University. Balancing a return to school with the full time job of Directress, not to mention raising three children, proved to be challenging yet all the more rewarding upon completion.  

Darcy Piedmonte began her education right here in Monroe County, attending Ida Public Schools.  From there, she went on to board at Cranbrook Kingswood for high school and then on to Carleton College where she received her B.A. Darcy discovered a love of art and architecture, with a particular fondness for fiber arts, at Kingswood.  She carried that interest on to Carleton where she majored in Studio Art, studying painting while receiving a broad and formative liberal arts education. 

Darcy Piedmonte has been the directress of Intermediate West at MMS since 1993.  She has developed a great deal of the curriculum that is used at our school and continues to renew her dedication to teaching with each new class. Further, she is the leader for Meadow Montessori 4-H and active in our newly founded Athletic Club, among other commitments to the larger community. 

Darcy is now able to reap the benefits of the richness of our independent school on a personal level, for she and her husband Eric Langnow have three children. It is their great joy to watch Antonia, Zane, and Cale blossom and thrive at Meadow Montessori School.
